My old guitar teacher and lifelong mentor Colin Pincott sadly passed away on May 7th 2024. He taught me from age 12 and is the reason that I do what I do for a living. He inspired me to work at becoming a versatile guitarist so that I would be able to shape a career in an ever changing music industry. He also gave me a somewhat expensive obsession for Fender Telecaster’s.
Colin worked, toured and recorded with the likes of Eric Burdon, Joan Armatrading, Elkie Brooks, Alexis Korner, Phil Seaman, John McLaughlin, Graham Bond, Zoot Money, Big Jim Sullivan, John Paul Jones and he even had a short jam with Jimi Hendrix. He played on lots of hit records but his last was as lead guitarist on the number one hit single ‘I should have known better’ for Jim Diamond.
During the early 1970s, Colin worked at the Fender Sound House alongside guitar legend Seymour Duncan, and went on to become the trusted UK demonstrator for Fender guitars. I remember him telling me how he helped The Police & Paul Weller secure equipment deals before they were famous.
Colin was a big man. He was 6’6” tall and towered above his peers as a person and as a player. As a 12 year old meeting him for the first time I thought he was a giant. He taught me so much about the guitar and about music. I will always be thankful to him and he will always remain with me.
